Apply for a Job

Once you have taken the time to build a stellar resume and practice your interview skills, the search for the right job is your next big step. Take the time to build your network and apply to jobs that are the perfect fit.

  • Schedule an appointment with a career coach to discuss the Key Elements of a Job Search Strategy.
  • Handshake - Handshake is designed to bring Tulane job seekers and prospective employers together. Students and alumni can upload résumés, search for jobs and internships, apply for positions, register for special employer and career events, and manage an online profile viewable by employers.
  • Networking - Statistics show that 80% of jobs are never published and remain hidden in the job market. For this reason, networking remains the number one job search strategy.
    • Join Tulane Connect to network with Tulane alumni and gain a mentor. Leverage your professional network to be introduced to opportunities of interest.
    • Register for special industry networking meetups available in the Events tab on Handshake.
    • You may also consider using LinkedIn or industry specific websites to network with alumni or professionals in your industry of interest.
    • Not sure where to start? Brainstorm using our Networking Matrix.
  • Career Fairs - Attend the Tulane University Recruiting & Career Expo on October 24th, 2018 in the LBC to explore internships or full-time employment opportunities in your fields of interest.
  • On-Campus Interviews - Each semester, review the list of employers who will be conducting on-campus interviews by clicking the Interviews tab in Handshake. You will need to make sure to apply for any opportunities listed through Handshake.
  • Follow Up - Be sure to follow up with any applications you apply to within a week after submission to politely remind the employer of your continued interest in the position. Don't forget to keep your references and networking contacts in the loop during your job search process!
