Tulane Career Center has researched and invested in a number of premium online services to assist students with their job search. These on-line services are available to Tulane University students and may not be accessed by non-Tulane University students. The Do What You Are Personality Assessment can help you find ideas of what you could based on your personality. Learning about personality type provides students with accurate and valuable insights about themselves, their strengths, and blindspots, and their career-related needs.

InterviewStream is an innovative learning tool that you can use to enhance your job interviewing skills and develop an edge over the competition.  You will be able to simulate job interviews by responding to pre-recorded interview questions and practice both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.  The site also includes an interviewing webinar and expert tips.  Once you have created an account online, you can practice your interview skills from any web-accessible device with a webcam.  You can select from hundreds of sample interview questions and review your performance online individually or with a Tulane Career Advisor.  This system is available to Tulane students and alumni.

An online resource designed to help STEM, humanities, social science PhDs identify, prepare for, and succeed in non-academic careers. Graduate students, faculty, and others have free access to premium resources provided through the University's subscription to Versatile PhD. For access, please click the logo above or click here to authenticate yourself as a Tulane University affiliate.

Once you reach Versatile PhD, you'll find:

  • HIRED: Authentic resumes and cover letters that got real PhDs their first jobs away from the faculty track, with detailed analysis that describes how they made the non-academic pivot and shows the application and hiring process step by step

With the sophisticated Optimal Resume Builder you can build and manage 5 separate résumés which can all be accessed by personal links or in a standard Microsoft Word ® document. The Flash version of the résumés can be embedded with "infobytes" or small pop-ups of background information that might be useful to the reader. 

Since the résumés are online, changes made to them take place immediately, so this is an advantage over the typical emailed attachment or hard copy. 


The Going Global Career Guides/Global Key Employer Directory Database is a massive research tool that contains more than 10,000 resources for finding employment at home and abroad. Over 25,000 employer listings have been specially selected to reflect companies where professional opportunities are likely to be available.

Reference USA is an Internet-based reference service from the Library Division of infoUSA. The site was designed for use as a reference tool in libraries and is continually enhanced based upon suggestions from librarians and library patrons. It is the number 1 source of information on businesses and people for researchers, student, job seekers, and government agencies.

Job Choices is a free online service offered by NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) to provide students with information on how to write a résumé, enhance interviewing skills, learn what employers are seeking in a candidate, and how to market yourself successfully. 


The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) is an outstanding resource of job descriptions, salary information, and data posted by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

O*NET Program is the nation's primary source of occupational information. This database is available to the public, free of cost, and is continually  updated by surveying a broad range of workers from each occupation. O*NET is sponsored of the United States Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration. 

Characteristics unique to O*NET: 

  • Shows which jobs have a bright outlook
  • Classifies jobs as green
  • Provides skills and interest assessments
  • Provides work values descriptors

Glassdoor is the world's most transparent career community that is changing the way people find jobs, and companies recruit top talent. Glassdoor holds a growing database of 6 million company reviews, CEO approval ratings, salary reports, interview reviews and questions, benefits reviews, office photos and more. Unlike other jobs sites, all of this information is entirely shared by those who know a company best — the employees. Add to that millions of the latest jobs — no other community allows you to see which employers are hiring, what it's really like to work or interview there according to employees, and how much you could earn. Buzzfile is a comprehensive Business Information Database and LIST Builder. Buzzfile's interactive screening engine and smart filters empower users to search through 18 million U.S. businesses and compile highly targeted prospect lists.
